Born Under a Different Sign
New limited 7" single.
Toronto's indie-pop darlings The Holiday Crowd return with a new double A-side single,"Sick Days" b/w "Born Under a Different Sign". Coming off a stint of live shows, including the NYC Popfest, Berlin’s Indie Pop Days and supporting Paul Weller in Toronto, the boys were eager to get back in the studio to have a new release under their belt. The two tracks are a continuation of their debut Over The Bluffs, released in January of this year.
Singer Imran Haniff explains "We didn't want to put "Sick Days" and "Born Under a Different Sign" on the next album mainly because we stayed with the stripped down approach we had with songs from Over The Bluffs."Sick Days”, it's an evocation of some sort for poor old souls. A strive for perfection with the fear of the unknown. It's crazy. I'm a believer. “Born Under A Different Sign”; independence, indifference and intolerance is what it's about."
The Holiday Crowd live up to their moniker having just returned from playing select dates in Germany and Denmark. They nearly "had a blast" when two bombs were found at Heiligengeistfeld fairground in Hamburg. Says Haniff, “Two active bombs left over from WWII were found in a stadium while they were doing some construction. This all happened moments before our show there at Club Astra-Stube. They shut down the city. I was surprised that people made it to the show. There are really committed music fans in Hamburg!” The band plans a return to Europe in early 2013 to launch the Manimal Vinyl debut release of Over The Bluffs. They will also play their first shows in the UK at that time, where expats Alex Roberts and David Barnes plan to catch up with family in “Dear Old Blighty”.
The limited edition 7" will be released through New Romantic (Canada), Shelflife (US) and Manimal Vinyl (UK & Europe).
